  • Biquad design for 2.4 ghz (781)
Trevor Marshall has designed a biquad which when used in combination with an excess primestar dish set the as of yet longest wifi link. The record set by students of weber state university was approximately 82 miles.
  • Common Wireless Antenna Connectors for wifi (195)
They've photographed and labelled the most common types of connectors you get on wifi kit, so you can work out what cable you need to buy to join up your wireless card/access point and external antenna. Click on the pictures, to get a bigger picture.
  • Home Brew cantenna (186)
Site contains exact directions on how to build an use a Can antenna (waveguide) for wifi.
  • Knoppix Security Tools Distribution (124)
Knoppix STD is a essentially a linux live CD (boot your machine and instantly run linux) with security and auditing applications preinstalled and ready to go. Some of the wireless tools included on the disk include: # airsnarf : rogue AP setup utility
    # airsnort : sniff, find, crack 802.11b
    # airtraf : 802.11b network performance analyzer
    # gpsdrive : use GPS and maps
    # kismet 3.0.1 : for 802.11 what else do you need?
    # kismet-log-viewer : manage your kismet logs
    # macchanger : change your MAC address
    # wellenreiter : 802.11b discovery and auditing
This software is 100% opensource freeware
  • Link-level Measurements from an 802.11b Mesh Network (146)
This paper analyzes the causes of packet loss in a 38-node
urban multi-hop 802.11b network. The patterns and causes
of loss are important in the design of routing and errorcorrection
protocols, as well as in network planning.
  • MIT Roofnet Implementation (183)
This document describes the implementation of the MIT Roofnet, an experimental multi-hop 802.11b mesh network. Roofnet consists of about 50 nodes in apartments in Cambridge, MA. Each node is in radio range of a subset of the other nodes, and can communicate with the rest of the nodes via multi-hop forwarding. A few of the nodes act as gateways to the wired Internet.

  • Netstumbler (626)
Netstumbler is freeware windows application that tracks, reports and logs signals from wireless access points. The program will also work with most GPS hardware so can map out exact propigation.
  • Radio Labs Calculators (611)
Various java based calculators for rlan/wifi, enable power loss, dbi, and signal over distance calculations.
  • San Antonio 802.11 pages (485)
Site contains usefull information on setup and deployment of 802.11 part 97 networks.
  • seattlewireless (658)
Seattlewireless is a community project that is currently active in Seattle Washington. There site contains many resources incluing equipment comparision, maps, trials, and detailed documentation of the trails and tribulations of there work
